Karan and Pihu were both up and coming entrepreneurs in the fast-growing startup ecosystem of Bangalore. Karan had started a company that provided financial technology solutions to small businesses while Pihu ran an e-commerce venture that sold handcrafted products made by underprivileged artisans.

The two often crossed paths at various networking events and trade shows. Pihu admired Karan's knowledge of markets and economics while Karan was impressed by Pihu's passion for her social mission.
